- Enemy action accounted for only 25% of the tanks lost by the British Army in France in 1940; all the rest were due to mechanical breakdown.
- The oldest battle honor borne by any American military organization is a Revolutionary War streamer embroidered "Lexington 1776," held by the 182nd Infantry Regiment, Massachusetts National Guard, formerly the "1st Regiment of Militia of Middlesex," originally organized in 1636.
- Since radios were too heavy to be carried in the aircraft of the day, during WW I the U.S. Navy provided the pilots of sea planes with an alternative means of communication, carrier pigeons.
- During the Seven Years War (1756-1763) Prussian armies expended 82 million pounds of gunpowder, though national production was no more than 15 million pounds.
- In 1432 one Bertrandon de la Brocuiere proposed that a joint Christian army be organized to undertake a new Crusade, to be recruited from the finest troops of each nation in northwestern Europe, namely French men-at-arms, German foot soldiers and horse archers, and English longbowmen.
- During a border war between Yemen and Saudi Arabia in the mid-1930s machine guns were mounted on the roofs of Cadillacs to create improvised, if expensive, weapons carriers.

Santa Anna's American Children
When the Alamo at San Antonio fell on March 6, 1836, Mexican Dictator Antonio Lopez de Santa Anna offered to adopt 15-month old Angelina Dickinson, the "Babe of the Alamo," shortly after his troops had killed her father, Capt. Almeron Dickinson. But the child's mother, Susanna Dickinson, demurred, and Santa Anna sent her on her way.
