Raytheon is trying to develop a lightweight version of the Patriot missile system to meet NATO's demand for a Medium Extended-range Air Defense System (MEADS). Raytheon's plan is to reduce the control units from five-ton trucks to Humvees, and the radar black boxes from 1,451 separate units to only 159. The radar antenna would be reduced from its current massive size to a unit able to fit into a C-130.--Stephen V Cole
