The air force is calling it's new multisensor command and control aircraft the E-10. This is a militarized Boeing 767 that will replace the E-3 AWACS, E-8 JSTARS and the RC-135 electronic warfare aircraft. It was previously designated the MC2A. Using more compact and powerful electronics, the air force expects to built up to fifty E-10s, which will support ground and air operations. The E-10 will communicate directly with space satellites and control UAVs as well as manned aircraft. Some $300 million a year is being spent on development and the first E-10 will probably enter service before the end of the decade.
