A report by Senator Patrick Leahy (D, Vt) indicates that the Pentagon is resisting orders by President Clinton to investigate alternatives to anti-personnel land mines. The Pentagon rejected the claim, noting that it had conducted demonstrations in late October with two prototype systems designed to replace land mines.--Stephen V Cole
