Iraq apparently had no plans to send their air force into the air to oppose coalition warplanes. When the main military airfields were captured, it was found that the Iraqis had carefully hidden their warplanes. Some were buried. Others were towed to groves of date palms, or into dried out riverbeds, where they were covered with camouflage nets. Wreckage from aircraft destroyed in past wars were spread about on the airfields to deceive coalition reconnaissance aircraft. Since no aircraft were spotted anywhere ready to take off, coalition warplanes didn't spend a lot of time hunting for the several hundred Iraqi air force aircraft.
