Some 5,000 reservists and National Guard troops will be released from mobilization status as it has been determined that their units are not needed in Iraq. The 807th Medical Brigade, not needed because of the very low casualties in Iraq, is one example of such units. It might appear to these troops that they are being jerked around. But this is probably not the case in the long run. The word in the Department of Defense is that these outfits at least made the cut when the Pentagon went looking for units needed for a active service. Other units that were not mobilized may find themselves headed for the chopping block during the next round of cuts. The Secretary of Defense has been talking about cutting back the reserves.
