The European Space Agency launched the largest civilian satellite in history from French Guiana on 21 Dec. The 4.5 ton Galaxy XI was put into a geosynchronous orbit by an Ariane-IV booster. The French declared this to be the last space launch of the millennium (even if the satellite is owned by an American company.) --Stephen V Cole
