On May 28th Israel successfully launched a 660 pound Ofek-5 spy satellite. The cameras on board can identify objects on the ground as small as one meter (39 inches) in size. The Ofek-5 is expected to last five years. It replaces an Ofek-3, which went dead 18 months ago. Ofek-4, launched in 1998, failed to achieve orbit. The launcher and satellite were both built in Israel.
