IWO JIMA, Japan (March 14, 2007) - Marines render salutes alongside members of the Japan Maritime Self Defense Force (JMSDF) during the presentation of colors at the 62nd Commemoration of the Battle of Iwo Jima. The commemoration honored the veterans of the United States and Japan and celebrated the unity now intact between the two nations following the World War II battle. In conjunction with the commemoration, Sailors and Marines stationed aboard dock landing ship USS Harpers Ferry (LSD 49) had the opportunity to see historical remnants of the World War II battle and to pay tribute to the fallen service members of both forces.
