 In eastern Afghanistan, gunmen killed the parents of an Afghan man working for US troops. Al Qaeda and Taliban have been threatening locals (verbally and via posters) not to cooperate with Americans or the new central government. 

Fighting continues in northern Afghanistan, as several warlord groups resolve differences (some going back decades.)
