GSPC leader Amari Saifi was reported to have been arrested in Chad, where he had been held by Chadian rebels after escaping an ambush engineered by American Special Forces.  Saifi, nicknamed "the Para" (because he was once an Algerian paratrooper), became the head of the GSPC last year when he shot his boss for "heresy and treason."
