As further proof that UNITA is back on its heels, UNITA has called for negotiations with the Angolan government.

The Angolan government claimed that it now controls the entire 1250 kilometer-long Angolan-Namibian border. A government spokesman said the capture of Jamba illustrated the success of the government offensive, which has also taken from UNITA the towns of Savate, Cuangar, Calai, Xamavera, Dirico, and Muscusso, An MPLA source said 200 UNITA rebels surrendered in the battle for Jamba. One western source informs FYEO that "jamba" means "elephant" in the Umbundu language. Will the offensive now turn to the east and take the diamond mines? (Austin Bay)
