Russia, Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan have made an informal military alliance a formal one. This move is seen as mainly a political one to appease anti-NATO officials in the Russian government. Russia already has military agreements and relationships with all the nations involved.
