AUC commander Miguel Arroyave was killed by rivals.  Arroyave controlled about a third of AUC's 20,000 gunmen. But that control was more like herding cats, and heavily armed cats as well. While  Arroyave supported negotiating the dissolution of the AUC with the government, many of his subordinates did not, and want to continue with the AUC's lucrative deals with drug gangs. The AUC, like the leftist rebels, support themselves by extorting, or providing security for, drug operations.
