The government has agreed to demobilize 4,000 armed members of the AUC by the end of the year. The men will surrender their weapons, be given medical exams, provided with medical care, job training and, in most cases, amnesty. But those who committed crimes of an unspecified severity, will be prosecuted. How well this first batch does will determine of the other 26,000 AUC members go through the process. It's thought that at least a few thousand AUC members would be liable for prosecution.
