The Indian Navy has commissioned its first locally-built replenishment ship, the tanker Adiyta. Construction has been slow; the ship was ordered in 1987 and the hull was launched in 1993. The ship displaces 24,600 tons and has a range of 10,000 nautical miles at 16 knots. The ship has four replenishment-at-sea stations. The first modified Godavari-class frigate (Brahmaputra) was commissioned in mid-April; two more are to be built. The last of four modified Khukri-class corvettes has been launched.--Stephen V Cole
