India-Pakistan: August 18, 2004

Archives

Pakistan published a list, with pictures, of its six "most wanted" terrorists. Five are Pakistani, one is Libyan. In the last six weeks, 63 major terrorist suspects have been arrested, including twelve foreigners. Rewards were also offered for information leading to the arrest of two al Qaeda members believed responsible for assassination attempts on Pakistani president Musharraf. The government is concentrating on al Qaeda, and trying not to target groups involved with training  terrorists for operations in Kashmir against Indian troops and police. The Kashmir operations have a lot of popular support, but some of the Kashmiri terrorist groups are also in favor of replacing the current Pakistani government with an Islamic dictatorship.
