At least 116 people (mostly Christians) were killed or wounded in the Malukus as more Lascar Jihad (Moslem Holy Warriors) from outside the Malukus joined the fighting armed with automatic weapons. The navy has been unable to keep the Holy Warriors out and the predominately Moslem army troops are reluctant to fire on them. The violence throughout Indonesia has, thus far, created some 750,000 refugees.
