The Iraqis have closed the Turkish border and stopped the lucrative oil smuggling operation. Some 4,000 Turkish trucks full of oil and fuel are stuck on the Iraqi side of the border. Some 1,500 trucks cross the border every day, carrying food and other good south and oil products north. This trade was tolerated by the UN in order to aid the economy in the northern Kurd areas.
