US and British warplanes destroyed an Iraqi surface-to-surface missile battery that was seen moving to within range of American troops in Kuwait. Usually, only air defense systems are attacked, but last September, some anti-ship missiles near Basra were attacked.
The US has mobilized another 40,000 reservists, bringing the total mobilized to 150,000. While 250,000 reservists were mobilized for the 1991 Gulf War, for most of the last year, only about 50,000 were mobilized.
