The death toll so far, after a year of violence, is 841 (649 Palestinians, 169 Israelis). Israel has given the Palestinians 48 hours to end the violence before peace talks can begin. Some of the Palestinian terrorist groups, especially Hamas, have agreed to hold their fire for a while. This is partly due to the US not putting Hamas on their International Terrorist Hit List. But smaller Palestinian radical groups don't care and are prepared to continue the violence. Israel also announced that they had smashed a Hamas 20 man cell that operated out of Israel and Syria. This group also trained in camps also used by bin Laden group members.
