The government and the two main rebels groups, LURD and MODEL, have agreed to hold peace talks in Ghana starting June 2nd. Diplomats from the Economic Community of  West African States (ECOWAS) worked it all out. The government has, in the past, refused such talks. But the situation is getting desperate. Most (some say 80 percent) of government income (legal and illegal) goes to fighting the rebels (with bribes, payoffs and weapons for poorly disciplined gangs of kids and murderous adults.) The country is in chaos, with even the foreign aid organizations being attacked and robbed by the rebel and government "troops."
