The UN has resumed making food aid deliveries outside the capital. LURD has promised not to molest aid workers or the food and other aid they are transporting. The problem with this is that LURD, MODEL and the government do not have complete control over all their troops. Many groups of gunmen do not have radios and often get their "orders" via rumor.

Liberian businessman Gyude Bryan was selected as the head of the interim government. Bryan will assume power this October and remain in charge until 2006, at which time there will be elections. Moses Blah, who took over as president when Charles Taylor resigned and went into exile in Nigeria, will be a caretaker president until Bryan takes over.  The LURD and MODEL rebels agreed to turn themselves into political parties and compete for office. Earlier, the rebels had demanded some senior government positions, but foreign mediators said no.
