A force of 150 US Marines returned to their amphibious ship offshore. The marines are a rapid reaction force, to back up Nigerian peacekeepers. It was felt that the rapid reaction force could operate more effectively if it was based on the ships, rather than ashore. However, local civilians are dismayed to see the marines leave.
