The government has offered Maoist rebels pardons if they surrender.

November 24; The continuing search for a police chief kidnapped by Marxist guerillas has led to the deaths of a dozen Marxists in several incidents. The actions took place in the northwest part of the country, about 380 kilometers northwest of the capital Katmandu. Much arms and ammunition has also been seized.

November 4; In the last two days, four policemen were killed and another injured as some 150 Maoist guerillas attacked police posts. The government has arrested 2,000 Maoists in the past two years, and 1,500 are still awaiting trial.
