The third largest ethnic group in the country, the Igbo, fought a bloody civil war in 1967-70 to establish their own state of Biafra. Since then, the Igbo have largely been excluded from high government positions. The Igbo still hold separatist ideas and have recently held a meeting of Igbo leaders to decide on how to work with the government for unity, or separatism.
