Troops and police are closing in on Jemaah Islamiyah activists in the south, around Zamboanga del Sur province. But evidence collected and arrests made indicate that Jemaah Islamiyah (the local branch of al Qaeda) is planning attacks against Christians in the Philippines. The government is also accusing the MILF of allowing al Qaeda to run training camps under the protection of MILF gunmen. MILF denies this, but evidence mounts that al Qaeda is indeed being sheltered by some factions of the MILF. The government has told that MILF that unless the MILF stops supporting al Qaeda, there can be no peace.
