Burundis new president assumed power April 30. President Domitien Ndayizeye, a Hutu, took over per the August 2000 national accord. "I am wondering what is the reason for war today, Ndayizeye said. Sometimes I think the rebels are crazy. If they like the rebel life, maybe they want to continue it." Those of us who cover Burundi  have had that unfortunate impression for some time. On May 2 there were several reports of small-scale attacks outside Bujumbura.
