Peace negotiations are making no headway as the LTTE rebels continue to have problems with a rebellion of their own in eastern Sri Lanka. Since the more powerful northern faction of the LTTE rebels defeated the eastern faction in late April, there have been fifteen murders in eastern Sri Lanka. The dead have included soldiers, rebels and civilians. The violence is a result of the many hostile factions present in eastern Sri Lanka (Tamils, Moslems, Sinhalese). In the north, the Tamils are much more dominant and there is no real opposition to them. The rebels insist that the army is involved with the unrest in the east, and that may be true. Many army men want to revive the war and destroy the rebels once and for all. So peace is no closer because of
