On May 9 a Red Cross (ICRC) plane was shot at on a flight between Juba (south Sudan) and the main relief support base in Kenya, Lokichokio. The co-pilot was killed. Both the Sudanese government (Khartoum) and the SPLA denied responsibility for shooting the aircraft down. The Red Cross plane was a nine-seat King Air 2000 marked with the ICRC's red cross insignia. The SPLA says that its guerrillas would not mistake a King Air for the AN-12 transports the government uses to bomb south Sudan. Also on May 9, the Sudanese government reported tribal clashes in western Darfur province. The government said the African Zaghawah tribe fought with an Arab tribe. 60 people died in the battles.
