The US Air Force plans to buy thousands of Small Diameter Bombs to destroy small or soft targets and even individual vehicles. The first phase of the program will field a GPS/Inertially-guided bomb that can attack fixed targets in 2004. The second phase (two years later) will add a terminal seeker allowing the bomb to hit moving targets. The third phase would improve the seeker to cover a wider area.--Stephen V Cole
