Lockheed Martin has proposed a tilt-bed carrier for the towed XM777 field howitzer. The tilt-bed carrier is a large truck similar to those used in many cities to load and carry disabled cars to the repair shop. Such a system would be light enough to be carried in a C-130, and while the howitzer would have to be dropped onto the ground to be fired, the tilt-bed would make it faster to load and unload. The company notes that this would be a low-cost and low-risk solution.--Stephen V Cole
