South Korea's expected $4 billion purchase of 40 modern superiority fighters is getting vicious. Competitors include the Boeing F-15K, the Eurofighter Typhoon, the French Rafael-2, and the Russian Su-30. Boeing may have the inside track now that the Pentagon has agreed to provide the South Koreans with SLAM-ER (Standoff Land Attack Missile Expanded Response) missiles if they buy F-15Ks. Also included in the offer of F-15Ks is the top of the US air weapon shopping cart, including the Joint Stand-Off Weapon, AIM-120 AMRAAM, AIM-9X Sidewinder, AGM-130 Maverick, Harpoon-II, and Joint Direct Attack Munition.--Stephen V Cole
