The Norwegian Army has begun a survey of assault rifles, which will lead to a competition to replace their current H&K G3 rifles purchased in 1968. The most likely choices are the Steyr AUG, H&K G36, and the FN Herstal F2000. Norway is also looking for a personal defense weapon for vehicle crews, but is waiting for NATO evaluation of new ammunition types (5.7 x 28 and 4.6 x 30) before selecting one.--Stephen V Cole
