Japan is reorganizing its ground self-defense force, changing from the previous 13 divisions and two brigades to nine divisions and six brigades. The 13th Division has already been reduced to the new 13th Brigade, and the 12th Division will become the 12th Brigade late this year. A new airborne brigade will be formed, along with a transport helicopter brigade.--Stephen V Cole
