Russian troops guarding the Tajik border with Afghanistan have heard fighting within Afghanistan. The combat appears to be around Mazar-i-Sharif, the largest city in north Afghanistan and, until the Taliban captured in the past year, a major part of the Northern Alliance supply line from Tajikistan.
