Opposition to Kyrgyztan's dictatorial government has turned violent in the last week. The government arrested an opposition leader and put him on trial (apparently to shut him up and send a message to his followers.) The result was several days of violent demonstrations that left five civilians dead and at least 80 wounded. The government released the jailed opposition leader and the demonstrations stopped. A NATO air base has been set up near Manus, in Kyrgyztan.
