On the Line of Control separating Indian and Pakistani controlled Kashmir, Indian artillery hit at least eleven Pakistani border posts. Pakistani artillery and mortars returned fire. The Pakistani's often use artillery and machine-gun fire to cover Pakistan based Kashmiri rebels crossing the Line of Control into Indian Kashmir. India claimed eleven Kashmiri rebels were killed. Pakistan claimed that the Indian fire killed one civilian and wounded 25 on the Pakistani side of the line. In Pakistan, Islamic fundamentalists called a nationwide strike to protest American attacks in Afghanistan. The strike was largely ignored. Inside Indian Kashmir, rebel activity killed 19 (12 rebels, two soldiers and five civilians.) In Pakistan, Islamic fundamentalists killed two policemen guarding a mosque Karachi. Anti-American demonstrations continued in Kashmir.
