In Pakistan, Islamic militants have been unable to muster much public support for demonstrations against American anti-terrorism operations along the Afghan border. Meanwhile, the government is going after Islamic militants, but is still uncertain who is responsible for the attack that killed French engineers. The government is pretty certain that the Kashmir liberation militants are not involved in the deaths of the Frenchmen. Some 400 people have been arrested so far, but most are expected to be released after questioning. No group has yet taken credit for the attack.

In the last two months, half a million (of some two million) Afghan refugees have gone home from camps in Pakistan. This is a very popular development with Pakistanis and American gets most of the credit.
