The Palestinian territories are falling into anarchy, with armed groups usurping the authority of the Palestinian government. Yasser Arafat has long been opposed by more militant groups who desire the destruction of Israel. These groups also see the Hizbollah campaign in south Lebanon, which eventually led to the Israeli withdrawal from the area, as a viable model.  In Gaza, a Palestinian man was killed as the bomb he was setting up beside a road went off prematurely.
