The death toll for the 28 months of violence has reached 3,000 (2,249 Palestinians, 695 Israelis, 43 foreigners and 13 Israeli Arabs). It took 14 months for the death toll to reach 1,000, but the killing picked up speed after that. While the overall death rate is some three Palestinians for each Israeli, improved Israeli tactics and counter-terrorism procedures have changed that ratio to ten Palestinians for each Israeli in the last three months.
