Thousands of Syrian troops are pulling out of northern and central Lebanon. Their trucks are clogging the roads. Some of the troops are headed for the Bekaa valley, a part of eastern Lebanon that many Syrians believe belongs to Syria. Historically, "Lebanon" was mainly the coastal cities. The Bekaa valley was on the other side of the mountains from the coast, and was generally controlled by whoever held sway in the area we now call Syria.
