The Palestinian authorities protested an Israeli raid into the West Bank. The Israelis were after two terrorist leaders who had recently escaped from Palestinian prison. The two men were previously held in an Israeli jail, but were handed over to the Palestinians last month as a peace gesture. The Israelis accused the Palestinian Authority of allowing the two terrorists to escape, something that had happened often before (the Palestinians would, with great fanfare, arrest known terrorists, who would then escape days or weeks late.) One of the terrorists suspects was killed in the raid, along with one policeman.
