The FBI broke up a North Korean smuggling ring in the U.S., arresting dozens of people. The North Koreans provided counterfeit American currency for the operation, that extended to China and Thailand. North Korea is so broke, and lacking in credit (because of so many deals where they didn't pay their bills), that criminal activities are their major way to make foreign currency, to buy foreign goods (cash up front.)
