President Charles Taylor is running a tight ship. State security, and government lawyers are going after those who dissent publicly. Not much violence so far, but the direction of government attitudes towards free speech is obvious. Taylor is also reluctant to allow opposition media to establish themselves, denying radio licenses for anyone with suspect opinions or intentions. The government is no protector of private property either, with home owners being evicted to provide housing for security forces. Note that this approach to government tends to produce a rebellion before long.
