LURD rebels began withdrawing from the capital, which led to civilians looting food, other relief supplies and anything portable in warehouses near the port area. LURD had already helped themselves, and before that, government troops lived off the foreign food aid.

Some 200 American troops (marines and SEALs) landed in the capital to help keep the peace.
