In a growing crackdown on corruption in the now defunct dictatorship, the former head of the army and national police were arrested.

October 8; Soldiers were ordered, from now on, to wear civilian clothes when off duty. This is expected to reduce the incidence of soldiers intimidating and extorting civilians.

October 6; The government has removed locally recruited troops from the rebellious coastal oil producing areas. The local troops have become involved in criminal activity. By bringing in troops from other areas, fewer cozy relationships with local criminals will be formed.
