Religious tensions continue to grow in the north as local governments increase their enforcement of Sharia laws. Thieves are having their hands amputated, women are warned to not wear short skirts or slacks and people are arrested for drinking or selling alcohol. While many of the Sharia laws are not supposed to be applied to Christians, this exemption is not generally observed. This angers the Christian minority in the north, and the Christian majority in the south. More major outbreaks of violence over Sharia enforcement are expected.
