The Sudanese government (Khartoum) said its troops had defeated a rebel force holding the border town of Hameshkorib. The guerrillas pulled out and the Sudanese troops retook the town. A later report identified the rebels as belonging to the National Democratic Alliance (an umbrella rebel group of which the SPLA is part). Hameshkorib is near the Eritrean border.
